1 CommentI strongly believe that love is an action word. You SHOW people that you love them. You show them with your words and matching consistent behaviors. My husband and I both feel that love is a daily recommitment; beyond the lovey-dovey honeymoon stage, it’s the consistent reaffirming behaviors that really show someone you care.
Showing someone you love them doesn’t mean you have to go broke in the process. In some parts of our culture, there seems to be this idea that you have to spend a lot of money to show someone you care, but the truth is there are plenty of FREE ways to show someone that you really love them.
If you are strapped for cash this Valentine’s Day (or any day really😘) and looking for ways to show your love for less, consider these 15 FREE ways to show someone you love them. From free printables and handmade gifts, to love songs, to body massages, these ideas are simple, sweet, and sure to get the message across without spending a dime. Here are a few ways to show your love with or without words get you started.
You can write a romantic poem or song for your loved one. You can even write a love letter! Write all about what it is you love and adore about your sweetheart. Their silly quirks and their best abilities. If you have an envelope and a stamp already on hand, mail it to your loved one! (If you live together you could bring your love letter in with the regular mail and let your honey find it!) This is such an old fashioned but classic way of showing your love. All you need is a pen and a piece of paper, then just let your words flow.
Need help with a sweet recipe? Try these chocolate covered strawberries! 😍
Do you and your sweetheart have different tastes when it comes to movies? Bite the bullet and offer to watch one of their favorite flicks with them. They will enjoy spending this time with you and it is quite the gesture of love to show interest in a movie or topic that you otherwise may not have chosen. And you never know, you might actually enjoy it. This is perfect for the partner whose love language is spending quality time together.
Play a song for your sweetheart that makes you think of them, maybe the song you were married to, and slow dance together. If you are apart, make a silly but sweet video of you dancing while imagining they are with you!
Words are so powerful. Be generous with your compliments and see what a difference it makes. Make it a goal to give at least one compliment a day for a week and see how they are received. But try not to give compliments on his or her appearance. Instead, compliment your honey on their skills or talents, or the way they handled a problem or overcame a challenge. Your Valentine is sure to appreciate it.
They say laughter is the best medicine and it is definitely good for the soul. Make your Valentine laugh by telling silly jokes, recall fun times you shared together, or see who can make the funniest face (Snapchat filters are amazing for this LOL!)
Have a good laugh together and get that oxytocin flowing!
Perfect for the partner whose love language is physical touch. Shower them with hugs and kisses every chance you get! This is such a simple but really sweet way to show your love and affection. You can even sign your little love notes with x’s and o’s.
Without any prompting, send your sweetie a quick text or e-mail and say something thoughtful like:
Even emojis or gifs are great for sending random cute messages that let your honey know you are thinking of them!
You can text or email it if you don't have a printed copy on hand. Add a note that explains why this is your favorite photo, what you were doing when it was taken, and why you will always remember it.
Next time you are walking together, no matter if it's just up your driveway, around the grocery store, or to the post office, hold their hand! You could even give their hand three squeezes as if to say "I love you" in a secret code!
The day to day hustle and bustle can go by so fast, it's important to make time for each other! Schedule time in your planner for a date, to cuddle on the couch, water your plants... anything. Just be sure to do it together. 💗
Active listening can be a tough skill to practice. Ask your partner how their day was and then listen... without thinking of how you are going to respond and without letting your mind wander. Really focus on your partner's words and their feelings, their accomplishments that day or their struggles. Ask them a specific question about a project or deadline. While your listening to your loved one, make sure your phone is put away. Don't scroll social media while you are talking with them!
As you can see, you have a lot of options when it comes to showing your love in meaningful ways for less. Try these 15 free ways to show someone you love them your consideration and let them inspire you.
