How many times have you started a new digital planner, only to find yourself overwhelmed and not using it at all? I know I've been there. It's frustrating to feel like you're not using something that you spent money on.
And if you're like me, you love your digital planner. It's a great way to keep track of everything in one place, and it makes staying organized so much easier. But if you're not using it to its full potential, then you're missing out on all of its benefits! In this blog post, we will discuss how to actually use your digital planner to make your life easier.
There are more specific digital planners available like for mental health, fitness, or meal planning - but for this blog post I'm specifically referring to calendar type digital planners.
There are three common styles of digital planners: the weekly view, the daily view, and the task view.
Some digital planners focus on one of these types, some digital planners offer an all-in-one approach.
If you want to get the most out of your digital planner, you need to be consistent with using it. If you only use it sporadically, you're going to find yourself overwhelmed and not using it at all.
The best way to be consistent with your digital planner is to getting into a planning routine.
Do you want to plan your time a month in advance? One week? One day? If you choose a weekly view planner but you only plan out your week a day or two in advance, you're going to find yourself struggling to keep up. On the other hand, if you choose a daily view planner but only plan out your days a few hours in advance, you're going to miss out on important appointments and tasks.
Find what works best for you and stick with it. Consistency is key when it comes to using your digital planner!
If you don't have a routine, you're going to find yourself struggling to keep up with your planner.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to planning, so you need to find a routine that works for you. Some people prefer to plan each day in advance, while others like to plan each week or month in advance. You may find that you need to switch up your routine periodically to keep things interesting.
The most important thing is to be consistent. If you only plan sporadically, you're not going to see the benefits of planning. Try to find a routine that you can stick to, even when things get busy. And be patient – it may take some time before you find the perfect routine for you.
One thing to keep in mind is that your planner should help you get organized, not overwhelmed. If your planner is causing more stress than relief, it's time to reevaluate your routine. Maybe try simplifying your planning process or using a different type of planner altogether.
The bottom line is that you should use your digital planner to make your life easier, not harder. So find a routine that works for you and stick with it!
Visualize how you want your planning session to look, to FEEL.
Each morning you can sit down with hot coffee or refreshing water and review your plans for the day. You get to create your perfect planning environment.
Does sitting on the back patio with a hot cup of earl grey beside your green goddess philodendron give you the perfect warm fuzzy planning vibe? Then do it! Make it a thing!
This is YOUR time to plan, set the tone for the day, and guide your intentions and actions. You can even take time to get inspired with positive affirmations, mantras, or meditating.
Scheduling time to plan monthly or weekly, and then reviewing or checking in daily will really help you get the most out of your digital planner.
As soon as you get your digital planner, or, if you already have one, then as soon as each new month comes around fill in the important dates that are already set. Like doctor appointments, birthdays, other annual or monthly events.
Next, fill in family time, work schedule, and other weekly events.
If you just automatically do something, like it's so ingrained in your routine, you don't need to add it to your planner or to do list - that just adds clutter where we are trying to streamline and highlight information.
When you complete a task, make sure you check it off your planner. This will help you keep track of what you have already done and what still needs to be done. It will also give you a sense of satisfaction when you see all the tasks that you have completed!
More exciting than color coding - DIGITAL STICKERS!
Adding digital stickers to your digital planner is a great way to highlight information. You can use different colors to indicate different types of information, or you can use different stickers to represent different people or things. This can be a great way to keep track of everything in one place, and it can make staying organized much easier.
Digital stickers can also be a great way to make your digital planner more personal. You can add stickers of your favorite things, or you can add stickers that represent your personality. This is a fantastic way to make your digital planner more unique, and it can help you to stay motivated to use it.
They are also cost effective and eco friendly. This is because you can use digital stickers over and over again, which means you don't have to waste any paper.
Additionally, digital stickers can be used to change or create different categories that are already in your digital planner. Need that checklist box to say home management instead of work? Stickers! How about changing from a Sunday week start to a Monday start? STICKERS!
I hope this post was helpful and gave you a few ideas on how to actually use your digital planner. If you’re anything like me, you may have been using your digital planner all sorts of wonky! But don’t worry, it’s not too late to fix that.
